Playstation 3? Worth the wait?
I was (and still am) mad that i missed the PS3 reservation this morning. I wonder if it's worth the wait to get it later on (Pass X-Mas time) or find somewhere to buy it when it's release.
So i was wondering who here got their preorder already and if they missed the preorder (like me) who going to spend their times and efforts to get it?
Thanks

Looks like the computer phr34ks like their computers more than their chances at a PS3!
I bet 75% of this forum can't afford one of those things -_-

Not going to pay 600 bucks for a fully functional gaming system, to be honest. I'd rather spec out my computer (or get a new one altogether) which is in all honesty something I get hundreds of times more use out of, for all occasions.

The price is the reason why most people are going to hold out for like 4 years -_-
God, I need a new computer.

I'm buying a Wii this year, and may get a PS3, but only 2 or more years in the future.

The PS3 is worth the wait.
People piss bitch and moan about a $600 price tag. It's called time of change and technology. Grow the hell up and accept it. If you don't want it fine, but bitching about the price changes nothing.
The PS3 is priced as it is, because it costs that much to make with its compoenets. With Blue Ray and it's superior graphics system it's the best system to be out there. It's carrying nVidias unreleased core graphics system which won't be availabel to the PC market until early next year, if even then, could be later.
Sony isn't going to take the 40% below cost hit that Microsoft takes with the Xbox 360. They'd lose an ass ton of money.
The Wii, while attractive to the old Nintendo fans and to the pocket book, it's a horribel system. Inferior graphics to the 360 and PS3, no DVD/Media capabilities and it's a platform designed for mostly young teens and kids. The software companies are goign to shy away from the Wii in the end and it's going to suffer the same fate as the Sega Dreamcast, which was a good system, btu couldn't compete with the 2 monsters.
Here's how you have to look at it.
Wii = for kids
Xbox 360 = Teens
PS3 = Adults
Based on the software that will be available, that's teh best way to classify.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a PC gamer, but the way technology is changing in the gaming industry, PC games are becoming fewer and far between. These new consoles are computers, they have full internet capabilities for gaming as well as large HD for storing updates, etc.. New consoles bring gamers out of the chair and back to the couch, to relax while playing games. All major PC titles coming up, UT2k7, newest Quake, Battlefield 2142, etc.. all of those will be released for the 360/PS3. No news of any MMORPGs coming out, but if the trends continue, then I wouldn't be surprised to see a GW expansion hit the consoles in the next year or two.
Just face it people, times are changing and technology is too. Sure it's a bit pricey, but everything is. You can either jump on board now when it's all new, or wait until 4 years later when the old stuff is almost dead (hence peopel who waited last minute to go from VHS to DVD).
I know where I stand and how I feel,. It's expensive, I want it, and I'll have to do some extra work for it, but in the end, it's where things are going so it is worth it.

im pretty sure the wii will have online and dvd capibilities....and the graphics don't suck that much. the graphics seem very resonable, in all the major games. sure they'll be equivalent to the xbox but thats still good.

Giga, what you talking about.... peoples demand DVD playback feature. Look at how fast the HD-DVD player for the xbox360 is selling right now.
As for the Playstation3, i might do the same thing i did for the PS2. Wait a few months and buy it since the first batch of systems always have problems.

Probably a good idea. I waited on the PS2 myself. I figured I was waiting for FFX then, so I bought it right before it came out. a year or so after PS2 was released.... I'm even considering doing the same and wait for FFXIII

I am going to wait for prices to drop before i get a PS3. Right now i am content with my PS2. They will still make games for the PS2 for another couple of months after the PS3 is released. Once they stop making PS2 games i will think about upgrading. But right now no way. I dont have the money saved up to shell out 600 bucks for a gaming system. Ya i want it but i dont need it. So i will get it eventually but not anytime soon.

You mean you've tried one? Otherwise, your statement has as much weight as a...well, grain of salt.

Already have a DVD player, I prefer to play games on my game console. I've never known anyone who played DVDs on their consoles. Doesn't mean people don't, just not the ones I know...so I've never seen the demand.

Yes, just like the GameCube was...I know I let my 6yo son play all my M-rated GC games on the 'kiddie' console. In reality, my son is allowed to play only maybe 10% of the GC games I own...because the other 90% aren't for kids.

Here's how I see it, monetary criticisms aside:
Wii: Everyone
XB360: Everyone
PS3: Everyone
Everyone has different tastes. Personally, most everyone I know is really excited about the Wii. Hell, even my non-gamer wife is excited. XB360, PS3...meh. My friends and I (all in our 30s, although our wives do consider us 'big kids') will be getting a Wii on/near release.
On topic: I couldn't tell you if it would be worth it to wait or not. Depends on if you really want to play the forthcoming PS3 games or not. Personally, I tend not to care about consoles until they reach sub-$200 levels...and there's nothing that excites me about the PS3, anyway...so it's not worth it for me. I'll be making an exception on the sub-$200 thing for the Wii, however.

Well said. Their are all types of different games on each system, they are targeted at different audiences. Playstation games are not all T or M rated. Their are a ton of E's. Same with Xbox and Nintendo. Each has E, T and M rated games. Yes Playstation and Xbox might be geared towards more mature audience but that doesnt not make Nintendo a "kiddie console". It has M rated games as well. You just dont seem the advertised as much as the E rated games. The Wii will do just fine. It has games for everyone to play, and with the new system comes new capablities for new games to advance how you play the games. Sometimes E games are the best games. It is all in how the Game system is advertised. The consoles are geared toward everyone, even if Xbox and Playstation put more of an emphisis on more mature audience. The Wii will still be a great system and do just fine competeing with the 2 big guns. (The GC did just fine despite doubts)

Honestly I do not care about the preorder since my friend has one reserved since he was actually at the store all day the day before and after since he's a big sony fan but I myself will be getting the Wii and will get the PS3 when the second batch arrives since I was ticked when I bought the PS2 and it had a disc-read error lol.
Besides sony has a bad track record for stable consoles.
The last time I checked the price shouldn't really matter and the dvd playback on a console is not a reason to buy a console. You already have a DVD player and why would you want another that you won't use?
the HDDVD player for the Xbox 360 was around $199 which means it is more expensive for people who will add that to the 360.
$300 core package+HDDVD player add-on= omg it's still cheap but who buys this over the premium?
You are actually going to buy the harddrive which is $100 so it's still the same price as the ps3 but the PS3 also has 2 different packages and guess what? Either way you’re getting less for your money when buying the 360
$400 Premium package+HDDVD player add-on= lol it's the same price as the ps3

I can spend close to 600 dollars to upgrade my PC (Radeon x1900 xtx and another 1GB memory into my system) or search like mad to find PS3.
As for graphic, i have to agree it doesn't make the system popular. Rather it's the games and the gameplay features that attract players.
